It was learnt yesterday that the ailing Taraba State Governor Danbaba Suntai might visit the Dunamis International Gospel Church in Abuja. However, worshippers and workers who stayed throughout the three services waiting for the Governor's arrival were eventually left disappointed, as Mr. Suntai failed to show up.
All church attendees had to pass through an automatic screening machine at the entrance, and these security measures suggested that a high profile personality was being expected.
It was learnt that Taraba Governor had indeed decided to attend the church service; however, he allegedly realized he was not fit enough to sit through the period of the service and rescheduled his visit.
"I am aware of his [intended] attendance to the third service. But, along the line, it was discovered that because of the timing and he was a little weak ... he was not able to make the journey again. By the time he was meant to come, it was already close to the time he was to go to the airport. So, he decided to leave Abuja," a senior church leader, who spoke on conditions of anonymity, disclosed.
"He was supposed to attend the third service. There were people on ground in the church that were actually planning his coming, which was kept secret until today [yesterday, Sunday, December 22] when some members heard this. That was how some people knew he was coming."
Taraba State officials present at the church dod not provide any comments, as they were not permitted to talk to the press. One of them, though, hinted that the officials could not meet up with the logistics for the Governor's coming to church, and that the visit had been rescheduled to an undisclosed date.
