On Sunday evening, widows from 17 political wards of Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State engaged in a prayer session begging for God's protection for Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who has been involved in multiple political travails.

The women gathered at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Rumuapara, Port Harcourt, to receive donations by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Hon. Tony Okocha. They also prayed for peace in the state, especially in the political crises-ridden Obio/Akpor area.

Briefing the journalists, Mr. Okocha explained the distribution of the foodstuff to widows in the LGA was a yearly event to mark his birthday. He added that he has instituted a free skills acquisition Programme to train widows fend for themselves.

Earlier at the ceremony, Elder Chidi Wihioka, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, encouraged the widows to make a turning point in their lives. He also advised the people of the state not to allow some evil-minded individuals who have infiltrated the state to succeed, and urged the people of the state to be grateful to Governor Amaechi, who is also chairman of Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), for embarking on developmental projects in the state.
